Abstract

In this chapter, we review and integrate published articles that examine passion for one’s work as a direct or indirect predictor of work-related performance (including task performance, business performance, and job creativity) and work attitudes (such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment). Our review also incorporates the constructs that play moderating or mediating roles in the passion- to- performance/ attitudes linkages and summarizes the theoretical perspectives adopted in prior research. Finally, in integrating what we know about work passion and its implications for work performance and attitudes, we also highlight what we do not yet know (and should subsequently pursue) about these linkages and offer recommendations for managers who wish to harness the performance and attitudinal benefits stemming from work passion.
