Today’s converging political, economic and social crises have powerful impacts on urban education, not the least of which is the ongoing impact of neoliberalism on urban schooling and related educational elements. Neoliberalism continues to be normative in the thinking about education in urban environments, from school choice initiatives, market-based leadership approaches, and attitudes toward students and education as products, to the training of teachers and leaders in higher education. Despite the many egregious failures of neoliberal policy and practice, neoliberal logic continues to be the common-sense framework driving most of what we see in urban education
This special issue is presented in two parts, due to the overwhelming response of authors across diverse backgrounds and interests with important and worthy manuscripts. The first ten accepted articles are included in Part 1.
