Abstract

This thesis examines antisemitic aspects of Geoffrey Chaucer's "Prioress's Tale" compared to other Marian miracle tales, arguing that Chaucer deliberately intensifies the violent elements to highlight the complexities of human storytelling. Through analysis of the Prioress's portrait in the "General Prologue," and close readings from the text itself, this essay explores the complicated character of the Prioress and what impact her tale has on our moral understanding.
