Abstract
This study was composed of two separate experiments which aimed to identify differences in associative memory and metacognition for younger and older adults when studying valenced word pairs (study 1) and picture pairs (study 2). These studies tested the Associative Deficit Hypothesis (ADH; Naveh-Benjamin, 2000),which states that older adults, especially when compared to younger adults, perform significantly worse on tests of associative recognition memory than item recognition memory.
