Abstract
While much of industrial drug manufacturing has yet to take notice of nucleic acids as potential drug targets, nucleic acids have garnered significant interest from academics who seek to fight debilitating diseases by attacking them at the very basis of their genetic code. Furthermore, the high selectivity (and resultantly low off-target effects) and ease of alteration of nucleic acids make them desirable for use as therapeutics.
