Abstract
Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) /spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is an inherited neurodegenerative disease caused by a malfunction of the ataxin-3 protein. It is believed that excessive degree of oxidative stress contributes to the pathogenesis of MJD disease. To determine the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in disease pathology, we are using a transgenic Drosophila melanogaster model in which they were fed paraquat with and without SOD2 antioxidant overexpression.
