Abstract
For some time now we have been interested in the use of vinamidinium salts as three carbon building blocks for the preparation of highly functionalized pyrroles and pyrazoles. More recently we have been examining other three carbon building blocks for similar purposes. This work describes a new and efficient synthetic method for preparing 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstituted pyrroles and 1,4,5-trisubstituted pyrazoles with control of regiochemistry from the starting materials. Such reaction products will also contain an aryl group at the 3-position of the pyrrole and the 5-position of the pyrazole.
