Abstract
BOTTOM LINE
-
The American policy of ignoring the Palestinian issue has played a destabilizing role in the Middle East, and risks even greater instability in the near future.
-
Palestine plays a large role in contentious politics and conflict across the region, as it spurs anti-authoritarian protests on the one hand, and is also often weaponized by sectarian and authoritarian actors on the other.
-
The United States is uniquely positioned to exert leverage over Israeli military actions, and increased pressure is necessary to address issues of Palestinian sovereignty claims at the heart of the conflict.
