Abstract
My thesis focuses on the work of three prominent Italian photographers: Mario De Biasi (1923- ), Nino Migliori (1926- ), and Gianni Berengo Gardin (1930-). I will consider the historical context in which neorealism arose and use three photograph created respectively by each of the mentioned artists - "Gli italiani si voltanto" (1950), "La Lavandaie" (1956), and "Il Lido" (1958) - to investigate how neorealist photographers chose to portray women and why.
