Abstract
Forecasting the future of the scientific study of groups and their therapeutic uses at the turn of the century, a unificationist agenda hoped for a societal shift from individualism to collectivism, significant advances in the quality of theory and research, and the integration of theory, research, and practice. These predictions seemed reasonable at the time, but some 15 years later they seem more Pollyannaish than prescient.
