Abstract

The University of Richmond has been one of the more proactive Universities in the United States in addressing climate change. Over the past 15 years, the University has increased its commitment to environmental initiatives by joining with other US higher education institutions in increasingly ambitious sustainability initiatives. The University’s engaged in a solar project with sPower to achieve the initiatives to which it has committed. Rob Andrejewski, the Director of Sustainability at the University of Richmond; David Hale, the executive vice president and chief operating officer at the University of Richmond; and Mark Detterick, the University’s Senior Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration, were instrumental in the development of Spider Solar. Reeder conducted interviews with Andrejewski, Hale and Detterick to understand the University’s economic decision-making process, from its first environmental commitments to its current “Spider Solar” project.
