Abstract

To learn more about the advantages for law firms of maintaining a web site, National Public Accountant sent an e-mail survey to 131 small and medium-size accounting firms. Most of the firms created their web sites very recently. Only 6 had a web site that was more than 2 years old. Keeping up with technology and attracting new clients were cited as the strongest motivations for creating a web site. Many firms reported that their web sites helped them keep up with technology and improve service to clients, but relatively few firms reported attracting significant numbers of new clients. Several firms considered a web site important to maintaining their reputation as information experts. Other benefits of maintaining a web site were recruiting new employees and reducing postage and printing costs.
