Abstract
Branch banking has been a part of the American system of banking since the incorporation of the first Bank of the United States in 1791. Included in it's charter was the authority to establish branches, and at one time there were nine branches in operation. With all of the interest in branch banking this study was undertaken to evaluate the present position of commercial branch banking in the State of Virginia.
