Abstract
Among those who may have been loudest in their
protests against the Winthrop viewpoint that women should
not use their wits were those who knew Mercy Warren. This remarkable woman had the education, the interest and the social prominence necessary to excel in a man's world and her contributions
although now forgotten were important in the age
in which she lived.
