Abstract
While the literature contains a lnrge volume of material on the reduction of carbonyl compounds, the historical section of this thesis will be chiefly concerned with the reduction of -- unsaturated carbonyl compounds by catalytic hydrogenation, metal combinations, aluminum alkoxides and by lithium aluminum hydride.
The purpose of this thesis is to study the effect various substituents have on a conjugated system when the system is undergoing reduction by lithium aluminum hydride.
